Let it Snow!

Wayne Snow Fighters are READY!

The City of Wayne Department of Public Works says, “Bring It On!”

Although the staff is not looking forward to the cold weather, they are up to the task and are well prepared to keep our streets clear of snow and ice again this season.

According to Tom MacDonald, DPW Director, the staff is well trained and very experienced in winter maintenance operations. “Despite the difficult winter that we experienced last season, our staff did an excellent job keeping our streets clear and they are ready again this year.”

MacDonald went on to say that the Department has an adequate supply of road salt to begin the season and the equipment is in good condition and ready to go. “Last season the DPW purchased two new salt spreaders that enable us to mix a liquid salt brine with the salt as it is applied to the pavement. We also jointly purchased a salt brine maker with the City of Romulus so we can produce salt brine at our DPW yard. By adding the liquid brine to the salt, we are able to use less salt and the salt becomes more effective. This saves on material, labor and fuel cost as well as reduces the negative impact on our infrastructure and environment,” he said.

During snow storms, residents are advised to tune into the City of Wayne emergency and informational radio station, AM 1620. Snow Emergency announcements will be available there and the announcements will be updated as the situation changes. This information will also be available on the City of Wayne website.

Pleae remember that parking of vehicles on the street is prohibited during snow emergency events. Vehicles that are parked on streets during a snow emergency may be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense.
