Earlier this month the City of Wayne dedicated the newest addition to the Wayne Fire Department, the 134’ Bronto Rescue Ladder Platform.

City Council approved the purchase of the Bronto in 2007. It replaces the 1978 100’ Sutphen Aerial Ladder Truck, which will be sold. Said Fire Department Chief Mel Moore, "The technical advantages of this vehicle will allow the Fire Department to better serve our community with this cutting edge apparatus for many years to come."

The Bronto Rescue Ladder Platform provides:

• Platform – 1000 lbs personnel rating and 210 lbs equipment allowance. It can also swivel 45 degrees to the left and right.
  
• Ladder – NFPA rated ladder allowing for continuous rescue.
• Waterway – A protected stainless steel waterway.
• Cab – Exceeds the ECE R-29 crashworthiness standard.
• Bronto Skylift – Closed Boom, telescoping and articulating device capable of a 134’ vertical reach and up to 88’ of horizontal-side reach.
• Ground Ladders – Rear storage area capable of providing a full complement of ground ladders – minimum 115’.
• Stabilizers – Automatic leveling system that allows aerial setup in 40 seconds or less.
• Fire Fighting Package – 300-gallon water tank with a 2000-GPM water pump.
• Compartment Space – Generous compartment space – 175 cu. ft. with a pump and tank.
• Hosebed Capacity – Right-side hosebed storage, 1000’ of 5” LDH, which can be loaded without moving the aerial device.

The truck was purchased through LTM Fire Equipment of Michigan and built by E-One Manufacturing in Ocala, Florida. The attached Bronto Skylift was manufactured in Finland.The dedication ceremony was held Nov. 3, 2008.
